Clyce "Link" Lingenfelter began his musical career when he was 15 years old singing gospel music with some of his friends in Mars Hill, LA where they appreciated his talent for singing first tenor. He was an original member of the Pine Ridge Quartet which has sang together off and on since 1948. Also during this time, he formed a family gospel group called the Twin City Singers in Tioga LA which recorded 6 albums and wore out 2 Greyhound busses traveling together on week ends during their 27 years together. This ended in 1997. In the latter part of 1998 at the age of 68, Clyce was treated for colon cancer. After 3 surgeries, chemo therapy, and radiation treatments, he thought his musical career was over. In fact, he thought his life was over, but God was not through with him yet. The Pine Ridge Quartet was still around even though they too had serious health problems. Throughout the years as they would get back together for Mars Hill Baptist Church reunions and family gatherings, they would jokingly plan to hit the “week end warrior road” together when they retired. In 2000 Dr Jack Smith was the last to return when he retired from teaching at the University of Oklahoma and moved to Montgomery , LA. As God healed Clyce from his colon cancer, the Pine Ridge Quartet began practicing at Clyce’s home where he just happened to still have the sound equipment from the Twin City Singers. A visitor from a local church heard them and insisted that they sing at her church. They did and the rest is history; they performed 40 concerts that year. Singing with the Quartet has brought Clyce and the other members and their wives much closer to God and to each other; their lives have been transformed in a very positive way. |
